I think they can, but they need to adapt their style.

@ Chris:

the biggest problem i saw in your gameplay is the same one that is much more visible in whack's play:

sometimes you wait for X resources to either make a building, or que a unit, or make an upgrade
you end up sitting on the same screen, waiting, instead of letting that sit, go do 3-4 more things, and go do that task you wanted.

start farming on right side of tc -- there's been so many tests, everyone agrees that it's the best, why the hell do so many experts not do it and slap farms in the worst spots first? 11

a personal preference of mine is to shift build 4 farms then distribute by de-selecting the villagers on to each farm (click 4 on unbuilt farm A, deselect 1, click remaining 3 on unbuilt farm B ...)

overall super solid play. you rely on your "feel" which comes from experience more than on anything else.
the aoc timings are literally a part of you it seems -- you know and feel them inside and out

@ the rest of you sobs:

a final note: DON'T KID YOURSELVES with the bullshit statements "i'm just a 1600, i can't teach him anything of course"

you can learn from a 3 yr old kid, and a 90 yr old person. don't limit your thinking.
very often a big problem the "experts" have is that they are so used to a style/way of thinking, that they don't even SEE another way, a better way, of doing things. so a guy with 0 experience can come in, and see it, exactly BECAUSE he lacks the experience.

Yeah, often the best coaches in history were not even close to the best players in terms of player skill and ability, but they could see things experts had long overlooked due to habitual techniques.

I think Chris' biggest problem of late in big matches is his emotional attachment to the games. He needs to detach himself to allow himself better focus, as frankly himself, Viper, Jordan and Riut (possibly Dogoa and Tim, I don't watch much of them anymore) are all capable of being beating Daut in a best of 'x'. I don't mean nerves (which are frankly quite good to have, keeps you on your toes), but I think Daut's major advantage over other top players is psychological. He's been the number one for so long, he doesn't show emotion (obvious emotion in games anyway). He had the perfect mental attitude to AoC from a viewers perspective.

Also, insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results each time.

that's damn straight, geen. If you really look at Bf booming 3 years ago, times are complete bull shit.I saw Daut do an untouched boom 33 minute imp. Over the past years that average time has dropped to about 29. And I'm pretty sure some 2k+++ didn't sit down and create a build order for it. The AoC community as a whole did.

I thought the advantage was proven to be virtually non-existant. I remember reading some tests from waaaaaay back in the day saying that it was a huge advantage, but a more recent one showed it to be near useless. I haven't bothered with it since. Does anybody have any data on this?

Your first point is a great one though, and one that probably affects most players. I really need to learn from that.
