UserPatch Spectator-mode

Postby  fenris_w0lf » Fri Aug 09, 2013 4:26 pm

UP has spectator-mode in-the-works, but almost done and ready, for a possible future version.

Here are the main features:

*) allows configurable/any number of spectators, per game
*) allows spectating any SP or MP game, including 4v4s
*) all players in game will know if and how many spectators are allowed
*) doesn't add any major lag or overhead to the game being played, regardless of number of spectators (up to a point)
*) minimal bandwidth, per spectator (1-5KBps)
*) full map, POV/fog and status of all players are available, during the show, for the spectators
*) classical achievements/stats/timeline are available at anytime, during the show, for the spectators
*) the overall concept is tested, solid, very reliable and is straightforward for the spectators wishing to join

The concept and more details about this new mode remain in secret for now, to be presented in (hopefully near) future.

Hehe, its not a joke.

We had a 4 humans vs 4 ai's game with 3 or 4 spectators yesterday. Worked very nicely. Some lag on my end (I was spectating) because I had "normal speed (75)) and it seemed I should have paused it for a minute or so to avoid game having problems keeping up with my watching. :)

it's no joke; there is also a new feature to speed up recorded games at increments rather than at normal or fast; you can now play them back as fast as you like :D

This is like one of the most important features this game could get. Gj if that really works smoothly.

Amazing if true.

I'm sure that you have thought of it already but keyboard shortcuts to change which players view you see please please please?! You can quickly flick through to see what res each player has.
