Because usually villagers are nearby, killing the ram under the tower. At least at the early stage of the attack. No issue like that with mangonel that can be defended with CA or other army. At least that's my guess. Plus a ram is easily countered with a mangonel secured in the back..

True. I like backing up a Battering Ram with a single Scorpion which can clean up the Villagers that try to kill the ram

Mangenols are used more simply because they can do piles of mas damage if someone has good micro. Scorpions can miss easily, but if someone knows how to use mangenols well, they are really devastating. I think its about the shock damage. With mangenols your enemies army can go from high numbers + high hp to practically dead very very fast, with a few simultaneous well microed shots. With scorpions it takes longer. In addition, scorpions are countered by mangenols so if someone went full scorpions the other guy would just ignore them until a mangenol was handy. It can definitely work in some scenarios, its just always risky when u have a unit that can make you lose 1000 resource from 1 mangenol shot, even if you are microing.

Did you typo or something? They hit easier than Mangonels do (damage units in a whole line rather than just one area, much faster moving projectiles, attack faster). Other than that you're right

I mean, they dont have ballistics. With no micro, mangenols would be far worse but the ability to attack ground is huge.

Ah true

What do you think if Scorpions were affected by Ballistics? OP or balanced?

AoK

Scorpions were not affected by Ballistics in AoK

They were affected by Fletching, Bodkin Arrow, and Bracer though

Is not AoK the original version of the game, before AoC? I don't recall +3 attack Scorpions when I played Joana D'arcs' campaign.

Yes, the Age of Kings. Did you research those techs?

Chemistry also gave them +2 attack. So in total Heavy Scorpions would have 16+5 attack and 5+3 range.

You probably picked up a Scorpion from GAIA or it got converted from an AI player using triggers, and converted units do not benefit from any of your upgrades.
